Dangerous weather conditions from remnants of Hurricane Debby have originally forced tournament organizers at the 2024 Wyndham Championship to bar fans from entering the property to watch the first round of the tournament Thursday at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

That announcement, which came Wednesday evening, stated that the first round will start on time at 6:50 a.m. ET on Thursday and officials said that “play will continue as long as conditions allow.”

Thursday morning, a delay to the first round was announced, with the first tee shot not being expected till 3 p.m. ET.

About six hours later, they called the entire first round off, as the PGA Tour sent a one-sentence update:

“The first round of the Wyndham Championship is postponed to Friday, August 9, due to Tropical Storm Debby. Updated first-round starting times will follow.”

For those fans with tickets for Thursday, they can return any other day this week and use their ticket to get in.

“I can’t remember the exact year, but I know when we had one of these horrible thunderstorms overnight, we started on time at 6:50 the next morning and I remember literally seeing an army of leaf blowers going down because all the pine needles and everything, all the debris and leaves and everything that were washing in the fairways was a mess on every single hole and it was literally an army going out,” said tournament director Bobby Powell. “It was a miracle that they started on time that year at 6:50 in the morning. So there will probably be similar situations like that tomorrow [Friday] whenever it is that we do start.”

The forecast calls for morning rain Friday but a high of 85. Saturday (high of 82) and Sunday (82) are both looking to have mostly clear and sunny skies.

The Wyndham Championship is the final regular-season event on the PGA Tour’s 2024 schedule.
