Scottie Scheffler is known as one of the most even-keeled players in men’s professional golf. But during the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship, his irascible side was on display.
During the third round, Scottie Scheffler attempted a putt from about 10 feet where the ball went wide left and was about a foot from the hole. Scheffler appeared very upset with the result, shaking the putter and tapping it against his left foot.
The video clip showing this moment was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by the PGA Live Hot Takes account. It was then reposted by other users, with hundreds of thousands of views.

This is not the only situation during which Scottie Scheffler has been left visibly annoyed at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. During the first round, he was unhappy with a bunker shot on the 13th hole and retaliated by hitting his wedge into the sand.
After his first round, Scottie Scheffler had this to say about the incident (via ASAP Sports):
“It was a pretty easy shot. I hit just a horrible shot. It was kind of a lack-of-focus type of moment.”
“I felt like I did a good job getting myself into position where I could make what I thought was going to be an easy par, and then I just hit an awful shot, cost myself one there.”
A look at Scottie Scheffler’s performance at the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship
Scottie Scheffler has turned in another solid performance so far at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He is tied for fifth on the leaderboard at 10-under at the end of the third round.
Scheffler carded five birdies and one bogey in the first round (4-under), while he improved in the second round with a bogey-free five-birdie round (5-under). On the so-called “Moving Day” he carded four birdies and three bogeys (1 under).
Despite showing signs of frustration with his bunker shot in the first round and his putting on the third day, Scheffler has performed well in both areas of the game.
The world number one has 1.385 strokes around the green (16th in the tournament). He has gained just 0.064 strokes in putting, but is still 37th for the stat in the tournament.
Scheffler leads the FedEx Cup standings by more than 1,900 points over second place. However, if he does not win the TOUR Championship, the final event in the playoffs, he will not be crowned FedEx Cup champion.
The FedEx St. Jude Championship is led by Hideki Matsuyama at 17-under. The Japanese player hit the best score of the day (6 under) to extend his lead.
His nearest rival, Nick Dunlap, is five shots back. Viktor Hovland is third on 11 under.
