Abraham Ancer played in the LIV Golf Andalucia, which ended this Sunday, July 14th. The Mexican finished in 26th place with a score of 5 over and was seen unhappy with his performance, as he was seen expressing his frustration by throwing his club at the end of the third round.

Ancer was playing the 5th hole (17th of the round for him) when an unfortunate play occurred. His ball was at the junction of the fairway and the green, from where the Mexican tried to chip it closer to the hole. His shot was not strong enough to overcome the slope and fell back to the edge of the green.

Realizing that his ball would not stay on the green, Abraham Ancer made a gesture of frustration and threw his wedge hard to the right of the fairway. The video of this moment has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times on X.

The announcers of the LIV Golf broadcast commented that Abraham Ancer had a similar situation during the second round. On that occasion, he was unable to execute his shot well, just as he did on Sunday.

Finally, Ancer carded a double bogey in the hole. He then birdied the 6th (18th) to finish the round. Before his double on the 5th, Abraham Ancer had three birdies and three bogeys during the round.

Ancer has played in 10 LIV Golf events during the 2024 season. He earned his first tour victory in March with a win in Hong Kong. He has three other top-10 finishes.

The Mexican has played 29 LIV Golf events in three seasons. He has eight top-10 finishes, including his win.

Abraham Ancer in the LIV Golf Andalucia playoffs
The Mexican had little time to recover from his frustration. After 54 holes, Ancer’s Fireballs GC team was tied with Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC, forcing a playoff to determine the champion.

Fireballs GC captain Sergio Garcia also had to go to a playoff in the individual event, so he could not take his place in the team sudden death. It was up to Abraham Ancer and teammate David Puig to take on DeChambeau and Paul Casey.

Ancer and Puig didn’t have to stretch too far, defeating DeChambeau and Casey in just one hole. It was Fireballs GC’s first win of the season and third since the team’s inception.

It was a complete victory for Fireballs GC, as Sergio Garcia also won the individual event, defeating Anirban Lahiri in a two-hole playoff. It was the Spaniard’s first victory since joining LIV Golf.

Fireballs GC finished in the top 3 four times in 2023, including two wins (Tucson and Jeddah). Prior to the 2024 LIV Golf Andalusia, the team’s best results were a second-place finish in Singapore and a third-place finish in Houston.
