Although this isn’t news to any golfer serious about getting the most from their game — getting fit matters. Whether it’s for a new driver, wedges, irons, or a golf ball, having the right tools will help improve distance, accuracy, and dispersion.

Now as far as the golf ball is concerned, Titleist has streamlined and improved their process with a new golf ball fitting app so golfers have one less thing to worry about.

How the Titleist ball fitting app works
Just like with any proper club fitting, the Titleist golf ball fitting app requires the golfer to hit a series of shots — and since we’re talking Titleist and golf balls, the Titleist Pro V1 is used as a baseline to collect data from 12 shots; half wedges, a full pitching wedge, a 7-iron, and finally the driver. With the help of a Titleist fitter, the data is collected into the app directly from Trackman (the only current compatible launch monitor for the app) to deliver individualized recommendations based on the data.

This data-driven process is on top of the preference questions also included in the app which cover qualitative options about a player’s golf game, playing conditions, and feel preference with the result being a percentage-based recommendation.

“Our goal with the new fitting app is to make golf ball fitting more accessible and convenient,” says Jeremy Stone, SVP, Golf Ball Marketing and U.S. Sales. “Every day, we see the benefits of golfers finding the right flight, spin and feel for their games, but we also know that selecting the correct model can be difficult without the necessary information or the right process. The Titleist Golf Ball Fitting App gives us the scale to meet more golfers on the fitting tee and provide them an accurate golf ball recommendation that is unique to them.”

Now it should be noted that the app is part of Titleist’s SureFit portal available to their network of custom fitters, and isn’t consumer-facing at the moment, but when talking with the team at Titleist they continue to look at ways to expand the availability of the app down the line. It’s not all about distance
We all know that distance can help improve scoring, but when it comes to how Titleist wants to help golfers shoot lower scores, the golf ball fitting app’s algorithm isn’t just focused on which ball you hit the longest, and for good reason. Just as they focus on their “3D” iron fitting — dispersion, descent angle, and distance, all of those factors help improve proximity to the hole and scoring, and a golf ball plays a big part in final performance.
