Scottie Scheffler lauds Nelly Korda as she marks her 5th consecutive win with The Chevron Championship

“It’s been a treat to watch” – Scottie Scheffler lauds Nelly Korda as she marks her 5th consecutive win with The Chevron Championship

Nelly Korda registered her fifth consecutive win of the season at The Chevron Championship. Notably, the World No. 1 golfer is yet to lose a tournament since January. The 25-year-old became a two-time Major champion on Sunday, with her first win coming at 2021 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. She entered the LPGA record books by matching the winning streak record of Nancy Lopez (1978) and Annika Sorenstam (2004-05).

Masters champion Scottie Scheffler came out to laud Korda for her achievement. The men’s World No. 1 heaped praise on his female counterpart and said that he’s “extremely happy for her.” Stating Korda is playing “some pretty serious golf,” the PGA Tour star claimed that it’s “been a treat to watch.”

Scottie Scheffler and Nelly Korda

Scheffler revealed that he was keeping track of Korda’s scores on Sunday as rain interrupted the final round of the RBC Heritage.

Commenting on Nelly Korda’s fifth consecutive win, Scottie Scheffler said, as quoted by PGATOUR.com:

“I actually was checking the scores this afternoon when we were in the rain delay… That’s some pretty serious golf. I’m extremely happy for her and proud of her… It’s been a treat to watch.”
It is pertinent to note that Scheffler himself is on his way to a fourth victory in five starts. The ace golfer, who won the Masters last week, is currently on pole to win the RBC Heritage. The final round of the event was suspended due to darkness on Sunday and is set to resume on Monday.

Nelly Korda ‘grateful’ for her winning streak

For the unversed, Nelly Korda shot a 3-under 69 in the final round of The Chevron Championship. The ace golfer outlasted Maja Stark of Sweden to take the victory. She registered a four-day total of 13-under 275 at Carlton Woods, making it one of her most impressive Major championship outings.

Opening up on her winning streak, Korda said, as quoted by PGATOUR.com:

“It’s been an amazing feeling these past couple weeks knowing that I can go on this stretch and that if I stay in my bubble and I keep golf in a sense simple and let it flow, then I can have so, so much fun out here.”

Notably, Nelly Korda is competing in the JM Eagle LA Championship next week in Los Angeles. She stands a chance to become the first to ever win six straight events on the LPGA Tour. Commenting on the possibility, the 25-year-old said that she is “hopes to keep the streak alive” but is “grateful” to win five in a row as well.
