Lead Analyst position for 2024 US Open at Pinehurst remains vacant as NBC scrambles to find replacement

NBC is scrambling to find a new lead golf analyst for the 2024 US Open since the departure of Paul Azinger.

The former golfer parted ways with NBC following the end of his contract after working five years with them

There have been several names that have taken up the responsibility of being the lead analyst for various PGA Tour events, including the likes of Kevin Kisner and McGinley. However, there has been no one who has consistently taken up the role.

The US Open will be the third major of 2024 and is scheduled to be held in June. NBC is looking for a lead analyst for the event, and their top contender Geoff Ogilvy recently pulled out of the running.

Kevin Kisner is not the best option for the US Open, considering that he has been an open critic of the USGA over the years. The likes of Brandel Chamblee and Paul McGinley will be live with the event, leaving one viable option for NBC to pursue- Brad Faxon.

Faxon is a retired American professional golfer who has won eight times on the PGA Tour. Better yet, he was the lead analyst for NBC and is already on board with filling that role once again. However, there has been no confirmation so far by NBC about who will be their new golf analyst for the US Open or for the rest of the season.

“I’m not missing golf in any capacity at all as a broadcaster” – Paul Azinger after parting ways with NBC

Paul Azinger’s departure from NBC was shocking, to say the least, as the unexpected news came at the end of 2023. However, Azinger has said that he does not miss being the lead analyst in any capacity, and he has been able to dedicate time to other things instead.

Speaking via Golfweek, Azinger said:

“I’m not missing golf in any capacity at all as a broadcaster. It’s hard work to be an analyst. It’s always stress and pressure. So I don’t really miss it that much. I just don’t like the way it ended.”

Before his career as an analyst, Azinger tasted a lot of success in his golf career, winning 12 titles on the PGA Tour. These included winning the PGA Championship in 1993.
