Jason Day says Augusta National asked him take Malbon vest off Friday at 2024 Masters
Jason Day’s clothing choices have made headline during the 2024 Masters.
On Thursday, it was a pair of baggy pants that were flapping around in the wind. Friday, it was a sweater vest that made the pants look innocent.
“Yeah, there really is,” Day said Saturday when asked about the chatter around his Malbon clothes. “Kind of like if I’m down, if it’s down breeze, these things puff up pretty quick.
“I don’t really listen. I’m just trying to play as good as I can. Like I’ll hear every now and then, but I really don’t pay attention to it to be honest. I’m just trying to play good golf. That’s all that matters.”
Day finished his first round early Friday morning before beginning his second round, and between the rounds he took off his vest. The reason why? He was asked to take it off.
“Yeah, they asked me to take it off, the vest off yesterday,” Day said. “Yeah, the busy one. Respectfully, you do that because it’s all about the tournament here, and I understand that. I respect the tournament. That’s what we’re here to do is try and play and win the green jacket.
Day didn’t make a big deal out of taking it off, nor did he ask why he needed to. He was asked whether he was trying to do anything.
“I wasn’t trying to do anything. They just scripted me in it, and I was wearing it,” he said.
The questions continued, but Day didn’t have much more information.
“I don’t know if it was a green jacket [who asked him]. I don’t know who it was. They asked, and I respectfully took it off,” Day said.
