Nelly Korda seeks to defend her gold medal at this week’s 2024 Paris Olympics. The American fired up an opening round score of even par 71 to tie with 12 other players.
She is set to head into the second round seven strokes behind solo leader Celine Boutier.
During last week’s men’s individual stroke play event, several players spoke about the overwhelming support from the fans present at Le Golf National. With the 2024 Paris Olympics marking the first time in the Games’ history that saw an equal number of female participants as male, Korda was in awe of the number of spectators that came out to watch her play today.
As the men’s event saw around 30,000 fans, the world number one golfer claimed just as many came to attend the women’s event. In a post-round press conference, Korda said:

“I saw the crowds for the men, and to see the similar crowds for the women is just kind of for me mind-blowing. I wasn’t sure what to expect walking on to that first tee, and obviously my first view was the tee. Then I kind of looked out to the green and I saw like four people deep and I told Jason, I was like, oh my gosh, this is absolutely amazing. Like I did not expect this many people to come out and support everyone out here.”
During her victorious appearance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Korda did not get to experience the full glory of the event due to COVID-19 guidelines. However, she is eager to defend her gold medal and earn the USA yet another victory this week at the challenging Le Golf National course.
