How to watch Nelly Korda’s attempt at five-straight wins at the Chevron Championship

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — On a chilly April morning in Texas, Nelly Korda left herself just 180 yards for her second to the par-3 18th.

Despite playing downwind, that still meant a full 5-iron for the long-hitting Korda. A storm system moved through The Woodlands on Saturday afternoon and overnight, dumping more than an inch-and-a-half of rain at Carlton Woods and forcing the completion of the third round at the Chevron Championship to Sunday morning.

Her 5-iron still came up short.

“I was in between a 5- and a 6-iron and I hit it really good, but sometimes when it’s downwind and I had a lie a little bit on the downhill slope, the wind kind of pushes it down,” Korda said afterward. “I hit it really good, and it just came up short, and short is dead to that pin.”

Had she gone with the 6, her ball likely would have ended up in the pond the champion will jump in later Sunday. Instead, she was dry, but faced a difficult pitch across a bunker and a slope to the front left pin. She played it safe.

“I didn’t have much of a shot,” she said. “I actually hit that shot in a practice round, and if you take it too far left it actually can go in the water.”

Her 15-footer for birdie just stopped on the high edge.

It meant a bogey-free, third-round 69 for Korda after she parred all seven of her holes Sunday morning, and she will enter the final round of the Chevron one shot back of Haerun Ryu. Korda will seek to become the third LPGA player to ever win five consecutive starts, starting tied for second with Brooke Henderson at 10 under.

Those three will make up the final pairing at 12:31 p.m. ET, and they are two clear of the next best players.

Players rose before dawn for the 7 a.m. third round restart, and Korda said she will try her best to “stay fresh” during the roughly two-and-a-half-hour break between rounds.

“It was an early wake-up call so I’m going to rest up and stay as fresh as possible for the next 18,” she said. “Just put my feet up and chill and then go warm up again.”
