Donald Trump has officially challenged President Joe Biden to a golf match – and will donate $1 million to charity if he loses.
Speaking to the thousands of people that had gathered for his rally at the Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami, Florida, Trump took another swing at his opponent’s ability with a set of golf clubs.
After their heated clash over golf during last week’s CNN debate, Trump, 78, offered to settle any questions on their sporting prowess once and for all on the course.
“Sleepy Joe delcared he wanted to test his skills and stamina against mine on the golf course,” Trump told the crowd before mocking the President’s swing.
He added: “This evening I’m officially challenging Crooked Joe to an 18-hole golf match right here. One of the great tournament courses anywhere in the world.”
Trump then claimed it would be “one of the most watched sporting events in history”, even suggesting it could be “bigger than the Ryder Cup or even The Masters”.
Setting out the rules, Trump generously offered to give his 81-year-old rival 10 strokes a side.
The Replublican candidate said he would give a charity of Biden’s choice $1 million if he lost.
“And I’ll bet you he doesnt take the offer because he’s all talk,” added Trump. “That match will prove he’s all talk and no action.”
It comes after Trump boasted of his golfing ability during the first presidential debate, bragging that he was in “very good shape” and had recently won two championships at one of his golf courses.
“To do that, you have to be quite smart and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way,” Trump said.
He insisted Biden couldn’t hit a ball 50 yeards, but the Democrat replied: ” I got my handicap, when I was vice president, down to six.”
He again challenged Trump to a golf match, but only if Trump carried his bag of clubs himself.
Trump is expected to underscore his strong support in Miami, a former battleground state that has now shifted toward the GOP.
Senator Marco Rubio, a Miami native and one of the contenders for the vice presidential post, was among the Florida politicians who spoke at the event.
Rubio, who is seen as a potential running mate for Trump, said: ” Together, we’re not just going to make it great again. We elect this man as president, we will make together America greater than it has ever been.”
Kevin Cabrera, a Miami-Dade County commissioner who was Florida state director for Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign, also spoke at the rally.
“The rally will display our unified front, showcasing a stark contrast to the Democrats, who are lost and fighting with each other over Biden’s health and ability to continue,” Cabrera said ahead of the event.
Attendees were fanning themselves and holding signs featuring Trump’s mug shot, along with others that said, “You’re fired!” – Trump’s signature phrase on his former reality show, “The Apprentice.”
