Donald Trump makes bandage update and compares assassination to golf shot
Donald Trump has updated his ear bandage, following the stir it caused at the Republican National Convention last week.
The former president had a large white bandage on his ear after it was grazed by a bullet in an unsuccessful assassination attempt during a Pennsylvania rally.
Trump has since made a comparison between his shooting attempt and a wayward golf shot.
In a show of solidarity with Trump, Republicans began wearing ear bandages, calling it a “set a new fashion statement”.
During a Fox News interview alongside JD Vance, recorded on Saturday but aired on Monday, Trump provided an update on his injury, saying it was “getting much better.”
He revealed that he was now using smaller bandages, which were less noticeable due to their skin-colored tone.
In an exclusive, JD Vance pointed out the irony of those mocking Trump’s bandage being the same people who continue to wear masks nearly five years after the Covid outbreak. Trump expressed gratitude for his life being spared, discussing how close he came to death and stating that he wouldn’t be here if he hadn’t turned to look at a chart on the screen.
Vance shared that he was playing mini golf with his children when he received the shocking news. Later in the interview, Fox’s Jesse Watters asked Vance if he had “seen the wound”, causing the VP pick to laugh, reports the Express US.
Vance confirmed he hadn’t seen it, adding: “I find it hysterical you have these people asking why he’s wearing an ear bandage. He got shot in the ear. These are the same people wearing masks five years after Covid.”
During their inaugural joint interview, the Republican running mates raised concerns over the Secret Service’s accountability following an incident where a lone gunman attempted to assassinate Trump at a rally.
Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle admitted to legislators on Monday that the episode represented the agency’s “most significant operational failure” in many years and accepted “full responsibility for any security lapse.”
“Somebody should’ve made sure there was nobody on that roof. They said they didn’t have the manpower for it, which is crazy,” Trump remarked.
“130 yards is like sinking a 1-foot putt. It’s considered really close. I was surprised by that. They said a bad shot would usually hit the target.”
“[Cheatle] came to see me, actually. She was very nice, I thought. But somebody should’ve made sure there was nobody on that roof. That roof was a dead aim right onto the stage. It essentially was a flat roof, so somebody gave her false information when she spoke about the slope of the roof.”
