Bryson DeChambeau has defended his decision to host Donald Trump on his YouTube channel after criticism from golf fans.

The LIV Golf star, 30, will release a video featuring Trump on Tuesday for his 852,000 YouTube subscribers to watch. The move is controversial, with Trump preparing to contest the upcoming United States presidential election as the Republican nominee.

DeChambeau, who won his second US Open title in June, has made no secret of his admiration for Trump. He was one of the first athletes to send a message of support to the 45th U.S. President following a failed assassination attempt earlier this month.

DeChambeau announced the video on X on Monday, writing: “Break 50 with Donald Trump dropping tomorrow on my YouTube channel! On this special episode, we will be donating $10,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project for every stroke we score under par.”

The two-time major winner told fans to “stay tuned”, with many sharing their excitement for the video. “LET’S GO – thanks Bryson,” wrote one X user, while another posted: “Oh boy, you weren’t kidding when you said something special was coming! “.

Yet not everyone was impressed by DeChambeau’s announcement. “That is me never watching a thing Bryson does even (ever) again,” wrote one disgruntled fan on X, while another added: “Another reason to dislike Bryson.”

A third exasperated supporter chimed in: “And this is what letting LIV Golf into majors will in turn get you… Keep politics out of golf!” DeChambeau was swift to counter the backlash, insisting the video was apolitical. “To be clear, this is about golf and giving back to our nation’s veterans, not politics,” he clarified.

“A few weeks ago I reached out to both parties’ presidential campaigns and Donald Trump was down for the challenge. It is an incredible honour to be able to enjoy a round of golf with any sitting or former president, and all have an open invitation to join me for a round of Break 50 anytime.”

After DeChambeau explained his stance, some fans expressed their backing. “To be clear, it doesn’t matter and you owe zero people an explanation,” one user commented, while another voiced: “We support you Bryson.”

Yet, a number of fans remained unimpressed. “This is the most tone deaf thing ever posted on this app, and that’s saying a lot,” remarked one user, with others recalling how DeChambeau had sipped from the U.S. Open trophy beside Trump’s son Eric just last month.
