Tiger Woods and Co.’s graceful record at the Majors has been replaced. In a recent report, it was discovered that Angela Stanford has achieved the feat of having the longest active major streak in professional golf.
What makes this feat even more interesting is that it is a women’s golfer who has surmounted all odds to finally name it to herself. This 98th consecutive Major appearance of the LPGA sensation is all thanks to the Texan native receiving an exemption to play at the 2024 Chevron Championship.
Announcing the onboarding of “one of the finest American players” into the field of the first major of the 2024 season, Al Williams, the Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Chevron, wrote, “Chevron is thrilled to welcome Angela Stanford…her dedication to excellence on and off the course is an inspiration and directly aligns with Chevron’s mission to elevate women’s golf through this championship.”
He added, “When Angela tees it up for her 98th consecutive major appearance, we know that her fellow Texans, including all of us at Chevron, will be cheering her on.”
This year’s Chevron Championship is set to be hosted from April 17th till April 21st at the Woodlands in Texas. With the motto “stars are brights here,” the event seems to have made a smart addition by awarding the 7-time LPGA star with an exemption.
But what does Stanford have to say on this matter?
Angela Stanford’s take on her latest golf world feat
Who doesn’t like making history? Angela Stanford’s response to this great feat was, as expected, grateful, inspiring, and optimistic. She expressed how she was “beyond thrilled” to receive a life-altering opportunity in her home state of Texas.
A nostalgic yet pleased Stanford remarked, “When I began my LPGA Tour career in 2001, I couldn’t imagine the places my dream job would take me. Competing in 98 consecutive majors has so much to do with the people around me.”
Her gratitude did not end for her near and dear ones. Continuing the niceties started by Chevron and its leading executives in recognizing her efforts so far, the 46-year-old also expressed her side of the regards. Further, she also expressed her thrill at what’s to come this April at The Club at Carlton Woods.
