Reports of Tiger Woods turning down the offer to captain Team USA at the 2025 Ryder Cup have flooded the internet.

With the PGA of America annoucing Keegan Bradley as the official captain at the Bethpage Black Golf Course from September 26 to 28 next year, several fans and players worldwide were left disappointed with the decision given that their expectations rested on the 15-time Major championship winner.

Since the news, Woods has released a statement to the golf world offering an insight as to why he denied the captaincy. The statement read by the PGA of America’s Senior Director, Julius Mason, said:

” With my new responsibilities to the Tour and time commitments involved, I felt like I would not be able to commit the time to Team USA and the players required as a captain. That does not mean I wouldn’t want to captain a team in the future. If and when I feel it is the right time, I will put my hat in the ring for this committee to decide. ”

What are the possible reasons as to why Tiger Woods denied the captaincy role?
Several players on the PGA Tour such as Xander Schauffele and Stewart Cink have sided with Tiger Woods’ decision to turn down the offer. The players stated that Woods has a lot on his plate currently and that the decision was in his best interests. Here’s a look at the possible reasons as to why Woods declined the invitation.

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TMRW Sports is set to launch their one-of-a-kind golf league called TGL in January 2025. The preparations for the high-tech virtual golf league are sure to take up a lot of Woods’ time.

Besides this, the 15-time Major championship winner has suffered a series of injuries throughout his illustrious career. Following a near-fatal car crash in 2021, Woods sustained a career-threatening injury to his right ankle.

The injury eventually led to Woods undergoing a subtalar fusion surgery on his ankle. Since then, he has had a difficult and long rehab and recovery process that kept him out of play for a few months.

With the recovery, Woods has been visibly struggling on and off the course. The PGA Tour superstar has had issues with not only walking but also with his golf swing as his foot is unable to withstand the load.

Several reports that emerged during the past year had detailed Woods being in the running for captaincy as a non-playing captain. However, the role entailed a lot of time spent walking on the course and training with the team, which would have been difficult for him.
