When does Rory McIlroy start the first round of the Valero Texas Open in 2024? Studying tee times and pairings

Rory McIlroy will tee off Round 1 of the 2024 Valero Texas Open on Thursday, April 4, at 2:08 pm ET. The 34-year-old will join fan favorites Rickie Fowler and Tommy Fleetwood on the first tee at TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course in San Antonio. The World No.2 golfer will follow the grouping of Tyler Duncan, Bud Cauley, and Robby Shelton.

McIlroy is the highest-ranked player on the Valero Texas Open field. The ace golfer is the outright favorite to win this weekend despite the event having 20 of the top 50 OWGR-ranked players on the field.

According to SportsLine, the 24-time PGA Tour winner comes into the weekend with 15-2 odds. He is followed by the likes of Ludvig Aberg with (+1200) and Jordan Spieth (+1800) on the odds list.

Rory McIlroy is a strong pick for the Valero Texas Open. However, he is only a longshot favorite as per the Tour’s power rankings. Notably, McIlroy hasn’t had the best of starts to the 2024 PGA Tour season, finishing T66 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, T24 at the Genesis Open, and T21 at the Cognizant Classic and the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
