Following a hearbreaking loss to LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau at the 2024 US Open, Rory McIlroy went on to tie for fourth place at the Genesis Scottish Open earlier this month.
However, the Irishman then missed the cut at The Open Championship by five strokes.
Rory McIlroy is set to make his second start at the Olympic Games this week. Having made his debut at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the four-time major championship winner has been training to take on the iconic Le Golf National course, which is located on the outskirts of Paris, France.
The 2024 US Open runner up was spotted playing at the Old Course, St. Andrews on Monday. As McIlroy seeks to earn Ireland a gold medal this week, he teed off his practice round in Scotland after lunch to get more accumulated to Europe’s courses and weather conditions.

With the legendary St. Andews course regarded as one of the most difficult in the world, the 35-year-old is sure to be tested well enough prior to the Olympics. Rory McIlroy has had a rocky season so far. After his dreams of hoping to end his decade long drought without a major championship victory failed, fans worldwide noticed a decline in his mental game on the course.
Following a missed cut at the Open Championship, McIlroy jetted off to Portugal with his wife Erica Stroll to blow off some steam in order to be in a better mental space ahead of the Olympics.
Its no doubt that Rory McIlroy has the potential and skills to win a gold medal. However, his performance comes down to the state of his mind. Following a win at the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, he had used confidence gained from the event to win the Wells Fargo Championship the following week. Fans believe that if McIlroy were to head into the Olympics with a strong mindset, he would be sure of a place on the podium.

Rory McIlroy has made 16 starts on the PGA Tour so far this year. Having made the cut in 15 events, he has recorded 13 top-25 finishes, six top-ten finishes, one runner-up, and two victories.
