The United States boasts nearly 600 athletes who will represent the Stars and Stripes as the favorite to win the most medals in these Summer Games, which end Aug. 11.

And one of those sports where the U.S. is expected to do well is men’s golf.

FrontPageBets takes a look at the 60-person field in men’s golf, and makes its picks and predictions for gold when the event beings Aug. 1 from Le Golf National.

2024 Olympic golf odds, preview & predictions: Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler favored in Paris
From the United States, favorite and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (+350) tops the odds list, followed by Xander Schauffele (+650), who just won the British Open at Royal Troon to give him his second major championship of the season after winning the PGA Championship in May at Valhalla. Schauffele was also the gold medalist at the last Olympic Games.

Collin Morikawa (+1200) and Wyndham Clark (+4500) round out Team USA. All four American golfers are major champions.

Le Golf National hosted 2018 Ryder Cup
The men’s event will tee off Aug. 1-4 at the Le Golf National course in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, which hosted the 2018 Ryder Cup. The four-day, stoke-play event will award the top three finishes with gold, silver and bronze medals.

The women’s event will be played at the same course, Aug. 7-10. Representing Team USA in the women’s competition are world No. 1 and defending gold medalist Nelly Korda, World No. 2 Lilia Vu and 21-year-old Rose Zhang, who is ranked eighth in the world.

None of the Americans playing in the 2024 Olympics were on the 2018 Ryder Cup team, however Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Tommy Fleetwood represented the European Team that year – a team that ran away with the Ryder Cup, beating the United States, 17.5-10.5.

Fleetwood and Rahm were Ryder Cup rookies that year and put on a show. Especially Fleetwood, who teamed with Francesco Molinari to beat Tiger Woods twice in fourball competition.

Fleetwood went 4-1 during that Ryder Cup. Rahm went 1-2, and also beat Woods in singles, 2&1.

McIlroy was 2-3 for the 2018 event.

Schauffele has already won one gold medal in the last Summer Olympic Games. Not to mention, he’s also won two majors this season.

With all due respect to Scottie Scheffler – the World’s No. 1-ranked golfer, who also has a pretty nice 2024 resume with a Masters championship and six victories – Schauffele is playing the best golf on planet Earth right now.

Schauffele entered 2024 as the best player to never win a major. Now he’s got the Wanamaker Trophy and the Claret Jug.

How about another gold medal?

And why not … at these odds, it’s worth considering.

Schauffele is ranked second in the OWGR and hasn’t missed a cut in 52 starts. In 18 events this season, he’s racked up 17 top-25 finishes. Twelve times he’s finished in the top 10, with two runner-ups to go along with two majors.

How do you not pick Scheffler to make a podium finish in his first Olympic appearance?

Scheffler has six wins under his belt this season – all before July – including his second green jacket.

He finished in the top 10 in three of this year’s four majors – T8 in the PGA Championship and T7 last week at the British Open. At the U.S. Open, he was T41, which was his worst finish of the season. Aside from a misstep at Pinehurst No. 2, Scheffler this year has finished in the top 25 in 15 out of his 16 starts.

He leads the PGA Tour in almost every major statistical category, including birdie average, which sits at 4.87 per round.

Fleetwood had massive success at Le Golf National six years ago in the Ryder Cup.

And while he’s still winless in his PGA Tour career, the Englishman is ready for a breakthrough moment. And what better way to do that than at the Olympics, playing for his country?

Ranked 13th in OWGR, Fleetwood has eight top-25 finishes in 16 events this season, including three top-10s. One of those was T3 at the Masters.
